Modern Award.  The Australian Industrial Relations Commission on Friday 4th December handed down the final version of the Award that will cover Swim Schools in Australia operated by a Company.  If you employ swimming and water safety teachers etc under a company structure this Award applies to you.  For companies, it supersedes all State Awards (except where a provision is not covered in this National Award or Australian law.  This Award comes into effect from the 1st January 2010.

To assist our Swim School members, within our limited resources and expertise, Swim Australia is doing the following:

1. Constructing a table of pay rates by classification, level, age etc.
2. Having our IR Specialist develop a summary document of the Award, with emphasis on Swim School applications.

The latter will be forwarded directly to Swim Schools registered with Swim Australia.

On the positive side, Swim Australia’s submissions to the Commission by our IR Specialist, Michael Taylor, were successful beyond our very best expectations.  As a consequence, the Award is much more ‘Swim School friendly’ than would otherwise have been the case.
