Swim Australia registers Swim Schools teaching swimming & water safety that meet the following criteria:
- Consent by Government Authority to operate
- Program is supervised by an ASCTA accredited teacher or equivalent
- Agree to abide by National guidelines as determined by ascta
An inspection, complaints and evaluation mechanism operates.

Conditions Of Registration
- APPROVAL. Each Centre must be approved by the relevant government authority.
- NOMINEE. Each Centre must designate a nominee to be the contact person for Swim Australia
- COORDINATOR. The person coordinating/supervising/directing the teaching program must have current Swim Australia Teacher accreditation or equivalent*.
- ascta MEMBERSHIP. All other Teachers will be granted membership of ascta in the Swim Australia Teacher Associate Membership of ASCTA. Such Teachers wishing to gain the benefits of other categories; for example, receive the ASCTA Journal and voting rights, must apply and pay the appropriate fee.
- TEACHER ACCREDITATION. Teachers must have current Swim Australia Teacher accreditation or equivalent* or be willing to obtain same as soon as fair & reasonable.
- OTHER STANDARDS. The facility must maintain appropriate standards in relation to general and technical operations, safety, supervision and instruction. Related rules, regulations and guidelines that Swim Australia recognised (determined by ascta) are those listed and may be altered and/or added to from time-to-time. There must be a person qualified in Resuscitation and/or First Aid in attendance during operating hours and Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance must be current.
- INSPECTIONS. Swim Australia must be given approval to inspect, should it so desire, the facility and its programs during the registration period.
- REGISTRATION. Registration is for a period of one year; from 1st October to the 30th Sept the following year. Registration is not transferable. The re-registration is with the current Principal and cannot be transferred.
* Equivalency is determined by ASCTA, using as a benchmark the Competencies designated by Federal Treasury to recognise Teacher qualifications for the purposes of delivering GST exempt lessons.
What To Do
- Photocopy any additional forms needed.
- Complete an Application Form for each Centre. (See below - use this Conditions of Registration page as a guide)
- Complete payment details and attach a cheque (if paying by that method) made payable to "Swim Australia".
